New Zealand - The Ultimate Environment.
New Zealand is well known for its lush, natural environment, which remains remarkably untouched by man. It is a land of abundant vegetation,
snow capped mountains, clear blue skies and cool blue water - the perfect place to nurture the world’s healthiest paua.
The OceaNZ Blue paua farm is located in Bream Bay, 1.5 hours north of Auckland. The farm boasts a deep water intake (600 metres out
into the cool clean ocean waters of Bream Bay), fastidious filtration of all intake water, and a disease-free status. This allows OceaNZ Blue to
deliver the cleanest, healthiest paua direct to a range of international markets.
New Zealand’s beaches and Islands are secluded, very beautiful and relatively untouched by industry and commerce.
Hatchery
Our hatchery is of the highest quality using pure water enabling our staff to spawn paua naturally in a
clean, cool, environment. We have Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries approval as a disease free site. We
rotationally farm paua by spawning fortnightly to ensure an even supply to international markets. All
paua are settled using specially grown algae to ensure the highest success rate.
Nursery
OceaNZ uses vee tank technology with specialist settling processes using algae from the algae production
unit. The new nursery contains 38 vee tanks and grown on for a further 3 to 4 months until they are
10mm in size. Each vee tank is stocked with 40,000 paua 2.4 times per annum.
Juvenile Systems
Juvenile paua require a secure space and grow quickly when in a stress-free state. Our juvenile
systems mimic the natural wave action of the surf zone which is where the small paua like to hide
under rocks.
Grow-out
Once paua are 40 mm and above they are happy to sit in the open. Our trays are fed with fresh water
at controlled temperatures. We feed the paua and clean the trays daily. This stress-free, clean
environment ensures the highest growth rates.
Intake
Our intake is 600 metres out into Bream Bay and sources water from 10 metres below the surface, ensuring the cleanest water avaliable in the
world today.
Filters
All the water is filtered through modern spin disc Arkal and sand filters. This removes unwanted algae, weed and unwanted sea life. All water is
filtered to 10 microns ensuring the highest quality water is supplied to our grow-out trays.
UV
To further ensure the health and well being of our paua all water on the farm passes through UV lights which naturally sterilises the water.
This process allows us to get 100% sterilisation without the use of chemicals.
Frozen paua processing
OceaNZ Blue has built an onsite processing facility using state of the art Cryogenic (Nitrogen) freezing technology. paua are slowly chilled
down over night to relax them and ensure the meat is tender. To ensure freshness paua are frozen while still alive seconds after removal
from water. This has advantages especially where the product is used in sushi and sashimi as it can be thawed and served as a fresh product.
Extremely high standards have to be met to attain and retain export capability but most importantly OceaNZ Blue customers are assured of
the highest standards of hygiene resulting in quality seafood with the best texture and taste.
